The 2018 Atlantic Broker Convention rocked the rock this past September. It was a friendly, high energy gathering. The Insurance Bureau of Canada unveiled a brand new Bipper and Alan Doyle played a classic East Coast set.

The theme for this year was “Navigating the Future.” We’re seeing an ongoing evolution of insurance, technology, and society all around us. Insurers and brokers alike are looking ahead to prepare for the business models of tomorrow.

Throughout the Convention, our Steering Committee split up to cover more ground and soak up what’s happening in our industry at large. It’s a unique aspect of our culture that we have the confidence to move and grow both as a groupĀ and as individuals. A few of their reflections are below.

“Some of the material presented made me think about how the future doesn’t creep up on you, it simply arrives,” said James. “And Alan Doyle was a highlight. There are entertainers and then there are entertainers who can sing!”

“The all-female CEO panel was great to see,” said Aneill. “I was also able to spend a bit of time with Mark McMullin and Bob Summers from Wawanesa and get to know about what is going on with Wawa.”

“After seeing the CSIO demo again on digital wallet liability cards, we are taking the initiative to set up e-delivery,” said Val. “It was my first time in Newfoundland and I had the opportunity to do some site-seeing and connect with an old friend.”

“I was particularly struck by the level of optimism that was displayed for the broker channel,” said Harley. “In the increasing hard market, insurers in general are relying heavily on brokers to be their calming force. And on a personal note, I very much enjoyed the pub crawl.”
