There’s been a lot of excited energy shared among our coworkers as Nova Scotia moves through its COVID reopening plan. The beautiful weather combined with lifted restrictions meant planning getaways with family and friends. Check out some of the summer shenanigans AA Munro’s been getting up to!

Derek’s Cape Breton Celebrations

Derek loves to fish, so a family weekend at Margaree River seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the summer. He and his son caught some wild Atlantic salmon and brook trout, and Wavey joined them at their cottage on the River for some games and good eats.

In late July, Derek played 9 holes at Le Portage Golf Club in Cheticamp with a few friends (and beverages). Living in the HRM, it was nice to shake up the same ol’ in Cape Breton and get outdoors.

Tracey’s Road Trip Reunion

Tracey had a week of vacation to enjoy this summer, and she did so with a road trip across the province. Her first stop was a visit in Windsor with lifelong friends. It’s a trip they look forward to every year that had been cancelled in 2020 due to COVID. When word came out we could gather again this year, their schedules miraculously aligned for a fun night together talking old memories and new adventures. Distance definitely makes the heart grow fonder—and a year without made it all the more special.

Next up was a meal at Mic Mac Bar & Grill, to catch up on all that’s been happening over the last few years with a friend from Dartmouth. Laughs (and wine) were had, and it was a refreshing stop on the trip.

The grand finale was some much-needed time with Tracey’s sisters in Parrsboro. They filled her last days of vacation with hugs, pool lounging, beach walks, and delicious dinners. Another gathering hindered by COVID conquered!

Rebecca’s Island Adventure

Most of my immediate family lives nearby—but my youngest sister is an RN in New Brunswick who I hadn’t seen since Thanksgiving. In early spring, when things were looking up, we planned a July reunion trip in PEI. Soon after, Nova Scotia went into lockdown and the Atlantic Bubble was postponed. We figured the vacation was a no-go.

Luckily, the Maritimes saw promising numbers and worked together to establish border reopening plans that allowed us to visit PEI the week we had originally arranged (and had all successfully gotten off of work!).

We stayed at an AirBnB just outside of Charlottetown, complete with washer toss and a hot tub. We relaxed at the local red-sand beaches and rocked a ropes course at Rise & Climb in Cornwall. We even had a friendly dinner competition to see who could cook the best dish. Having everyone together after a tough time apart was just what the doctor ordered.
