Kelly Power lives up to her name. She’s one of our go to people for organizational development. Over the years, Kelly has been involved in creating new roles and workflows, which have made us a lot stronger.

Kelly started her professional life with another brokerage in 1981. In the 1990s, she did underwriting for an insurance company. Seeing both sides of the industry helped her understand what kinds of structures and systems work for people. “It’s good when you get a chance to walk in someone else’s shoes,” she said. She learned the challenges and quirks of our business, as well as what she had to offer. By the time she joined AA Munro in 2001, she’d developed powerful personal habits for delivering results.

Two examples of how we all benefit day to day from Kelly’s work are our Team Managers and our Office Coordinators. Kelly helped design both roles. She was the first Team Manager in Cape Breton. And she played a big part in transitioning some of our offices to their current model with support at the front desk.

We believe any business that’s static won’t be in business for long. That’s why organizational development is one of our core values. But changing the way we do things isn’t always easy. We need people who are willing to step out of their comfort zones. “You might not always think the final decision is right, but that’s okay,” Kelly said. “You can question and disagree with anything.”

At AA Munro, organizational development depends on confident voices like Kelly’s. In our business model, any lasting organizational development is really a reflection of individual personal growth and development. “Personal growth and development isn’t just a buzzword here,” said Kelly. “Harley and Wayne really mean it.”

Sometimes we grow through gaining new skills or fostering new relationships. But other times we grow simply by respecting the needs of our family or community. When Kelly lost her parents a few years back, she felt incredibly supported as she took steps to enter the next stage of her life. “You never feel pressure about taking time off,” she said. “You do your work the best you can and you never feel like anyone is monitoring you.”

Currently, Kelly is our liaison with HMS Financial. She continues to help develop workflows for this exciting aspect of our brokerage. She also offers ongoing support to our accounting team. And if you’re ever in Sydney River at supper time, she’s sure to welcome you with something hot and delicious to eat.
