A few years back I was living abroad and I received a package from home for Christmas. Along with some gifts, there were a couple of pencils claiming that A.A. Munro had the sharpest pencil in town. For years I assumed that the new pencil mascot Hector was dreamed up in a marketing consultant’s office somewhere. It turns out the idea really came directly from clients in the Valley. I met with Joel recently and found out the true origin story.
