It was a mild October evening when Wayne, Chad and I met the St.F.X. Women’s Rowing Team for the first time in the erg room at the Oland Centre. The team gave us a lesson in proper rowing form. The lesson marked the official start of our preparation for the AAM Financial Golden Oar Challenge next May.

Wayne, Chad and I will each be paired with a member of the X Women’s Team and race on Victoria Day Weekend. The winner will hold the Golden Oar in their office for a year.

AAM Financial has also donated a boat to the Antigonish and St.F.X. Rowing Club. The club does not currently receive funding from the university, though they are hosting the Canadian University Championships next fall in Lochaber. The boat, which is a double, replaces an older wooden boat. All of us at AA Munro are invited to submit name suggestions for the new boat. It will be christened at the close of the Challenge.

We took measurements so that we’ll be able to track any muscle gains or losses over the winter. That’s Nancy from the X Team in the photos. Get your bets in now for the winner!
