Last week I had the pleasure of starting at AA Munro, working as a communications specialist alongside a team of awesome marketing leads. In a short amount of time, I was welcomed warmly by coworkers from Whycocomagh to Digby and the HRM too. With experience in insurance and a degree in Communications & PR, I’ve always enjoyed work that allows me to share ideas and connect with others.

I began meeting all different kinds of the best people: coworkers, company partners, and consultants alike that exemplify the constructive culture here at AA Munro Insurance. Stacia Peters, who works in our origin of Cape Breton, has facilitated many community events like the Little Giants that have created strong community connections. I can’t wait to visit her in person! And though I have realized many of my new coworkers may not share my love of salt-and-vinegar chips, we have been able to connect on many other levels.

With the world in the midst of a pandemic like COVID-19, finding my place at a new job in a time of such uncertainty was definitely a big concern of mine. And just as I started, our wonderful province of Nova Scotia was rocked by a mass shooting that affected our coworkers, clients, and community.

On April 24th, Nova Scotia observed Red Friday. People wore red to pay their respects to those lives that were lost in the shooting—a movement that came together quickly and saw substantial participation across the province. AA Munro also participated in a moment of silence in our weekly virtual Town Hall meeting—a project created to make sure we’re still connected while social distancing.

I feel that the culture at my new job matches the integral characteristics that keep us #NovaScotiaStrong: mindful, considerate, adaptive, well-rounded, and stable. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m excited to work together, through this time of crisis and beyond.
